For a year and a half we lived in a house in Eagle River, Alaska and had a beautiful view of one of the Chugach mountains through our living room picture window. Whenever we got a chance, we would drive along the river on the northern side to watch for moose, dall sheep and eagles. On Monday nights we usually had dinner at a restaurant in the middle of town. At the time I was sharing Krista and Tom with their Dad, so every other weekend he had them and then a few times a week for dinner and home work after school.
I was an intelligence officer for the F-15 Eagle drivers of the 21st Tactical Fighter Wing of the Alaska Air Command. Some winter weekends the whole squadron and their wives and families went to Mt Alyeska ski resort. I am pretty much the world's slowest downhill skiier in the world, but K and T were much faster.
One time when T was 11 a coupla pilots took him with them to the top of the mountain and the highest, most difficult run and when he came back in where I was being a snow bunny sipping hot chocolate by the fire in the lobby his face was white as a sheet and the two fighter pilot friends of mine looked a bit sheepish coming in behind me.
Nevertheless . . . scared as he had been, T was back up to the top a few minutes later.
In the late evenings when the kids were in bed, we often played "Trivial Pursuits" and after years of not being selected for any teams all the way through grade school and high school because I had skipped third grade and was too little and uncoordinated compared to my classmates. the guys fought over me to be on their team.
I have a photographic and audiographic memory, and know just a little about a lot of things . . .
Let's play "Trivial Pursuit" again, eh?
Was always fun.
Was in the hospital after the ovary had been taken out when that photo was taken, but probably wouldn't have been in it, anyway. Was attached to the Wing and just helped out with the squadron.
I told you about my F-15 ride before right.
Remind me again sometime if I didn't, okay?
Thanks.
